Fresh Letters

Back in February (see here) I told the story of how, during lockdown, I went for lots of walks and slowly assembled a full alphabet of letters formed by Nature.

Today I saw another example posted online by the Annapolis Valley Folk School in Nova Scotia, Canada.

It took Molly Montgomery - an artist from Alaska - a few years to get the entire set. (Her Instagram account is here. And this is the link to her b;og and shop).

The Folk School is a barter-based community-run project to share life skills and traditional trades, craft, animal husbandry, arts, food knowledge, gardening, computer classes, budgeting ... anything you can think of, they will try find a facilitator. As they also say, 'We celebrate our local talent together with concerts, potlucks and many other gatherings. We strive to be an all inclusive place of learning while building a community together.'

We could do with a few places like that in the UK.

Meanwhile, natural alphabets are a great way to encourage kids to put down their phones and to look at the natural world around them instead.

And you know kids ... they're completists. You tell them to collect a set and they are driven to do so.
