Old stories, new storyteller

As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I co-host a podcast called We'd Like a Word with my good friend, BBC radio producer Paul Waters. It's a podcast about writing and we've featured novelists, poets, agents, publicists, and all sorts of other people connected to the world of writing and books. Previous guests have included Graham Norton, Julia Donaldson, Anthony Horowitz, Denise Mina, and many more - including Michael Douglas. Yes, that Michael Douglas.
Our latest episode went live today and it features an Indian writer called Amish who is a megastar in his own country. The man has sold over six million copies of just his latest book.

His work takes Indian legends and turns them into novels - rather like Natalie Haynes has done so brilliantly with Greek myths. It makes the old stories accessible and enjoyable to read.

We met him at the rather opulent Nehru Centre in Mayfair, London, as he is the director there and a minister for culture and education. He's also a very funny man and passionate about preserving the mythology of his country.
I am 100% agreed in the importance of that.
