A calendar of wildflowers

The passing of the months and the seasons brings us a constant rolling stock of wildflowers to enjoy. It all begins in early spring with the snowdrops and the crocuses. Then they give way to the daffodils and the wild violets. Blossom breaks out on cherry and blackthorn. And then, as the daffs begin to go over along comes the bluebell, the daisy and the dandelion, the primrose and the forget me not, the lesser celandine and the red dead nettle.
I've even spotted spring starflowers - but I suspect they escaped from someone's garden. And I found two ladybirds hiding among the gorse.

Soon we'll start seeing buttercups and cow parsley, arum lilies and foxgloves. The elderflower will break out on the trees along with the dog roses. And then we'll see fields of cornflowers, poppies, ox-eye daisies and rosebay willowherb. And summer will be well and truly here.

Makes you glad to be alive doesn't it?
