Lorna Cassidy and Pann Mill

In July last year I wrote a blogpost about a visit to Pann Mill in High Wycombe. You can read it here

A couple of days ago (Sunday 10th) I revisited the mill and made a short video for my Youtube channel:

In the video I mention local artist Lorna Cassidy.

This is her etching of what Pann Mill looked like in 1962 (it was demolished in 1967 and the new two storey mill reconstructed on the plot).

Lorna Cassidy (1933 – present) is a High Wycombe-based artist who has been making prints of Wycombe District for more than 50 years. She has an interest in local history and in recording historic buildings, such as chair factories and mills. Often she chooses to record a view that will soon vanish. She has also recorded gradual changes to the town, such as the development of the High Street.

Tragically, her studio was burgled in 2021 and many of her original artworks were stolen. But many more exist in museums and collections all over the UK and overseas, including the Royal Collection. And copies of her book on High Wycombe can still be found in antiquarian bookshops and websites.

And, at 90, she's still active and painting which is surely an inspiration for us all.
