Today's the day of the Knutsford Great Race!
The event is only held every ten years and last took place in 2010. Sadly, Covid got in the way of the 2020 event but it's back this year. Penny farthing enthusiasts from all over the world will today be gathering in Knutsford, Cheshire, to take part in this gruelling three hour marathon.
'The Great Race is a test of skill, endurance and perhaps most of all bravery. All riders are welcome from novices to serious racers. Some wear lycra, others tweed, so whether it's a need for speed or just an excuse to dress up, there's something for everyone.
The course is a challenging circuit of a little over half a mile (900m) which winds its way around the town centre in a clockwise direction, with the start-finish line on Moorside, before turning on to the gentle rise of King Street with a few twist a turns and one very gentle descent back to Moorside.'
The racers will compete for the coveted Stockdale trophy, which will be awarded to the racer who completes the most laps in 3 hours.'
