The Horn Dancers dance again!

Today is Abbots Bromley Horn Dance Day.

I have featured the event on a previous blogpost (see here) so if you want to know the history, please follow that link.

The Horns will be taken down in the Church at 7.30am this morning ready for use. The Horns have been carbon dated to over a thousand years old, are matched pairs from a Rein Deer species not native to this country. The horn dance has been performed continuously since the Middle Ages (and most likely long before judging by their age). The earliest written reference to it is from the 1200's in the annals of Burton Abbey. 

In witnessing the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance you are quite literally watching living history.
