Podcasts worth a listen

I listen to a wide range of podcasts covering every subject from comedy to palaeontology. But there are also quite a few that relate to this blog. They cover subjects such as mindfulness, getting closer to nature, folklore, ancient traditions, folk music and better ways to live your life.

Here are 10 of the best (in no particular order):

My good friend Dr David Bramwell explores subjects such as the importance of ritual and tradition, the need for new myths to live by, alternative forms of farming that are less harmful to the land and many other fascinating subjects. Listen here

This is a podcast created by Ffern (www.ffern.co) and presented by the nature writer Lia Leendertz. Each episode, released on the first of every month, is a guide to what to look out for in the month ahead - from the sky above to the land below. Listen here.

Hosted by fantasy and Gothic horror writer, Icy Sedgwick, the podcast explores folklore, legends, superstitions, mythology, and all things weird, occult and unusual.

Hosted by Mark Norman. Recalling our forgotten history, recording the new. Beliefs, traditions and culture of the people. One episode each month features a special guest from the field of folklore.  Listen here

A weekly escape to the British countryside with fascinating guests and the wonders of the great outdoors. New episode every Tuesday and Sound Escapes on a Friday. Listen here

Writer Melissa Harrison spent six months documenting the wonder and richness of the natural world and the changing seasons and brought the outdoors into as many locked-down homes as she could. Listen here

The Old Songs Podcast explores old songs – traditional, industrial, street ballads – one at a time. Learn where they came from, where they've been, who sung them and who sings them still. Hosted by traditional singer Jon Wilks. Listen here.

A humorous podcast investigating historical characters with corkscrew minds, peculiar obsessions, and largely incomprehensible outlooks. Join writer E O Higgins on this journey of historical whimsy. Listen here.

This podcast discusses a range of topics from fitness to philosophy, arts, science and technology, but with an underlying focus on self improvement, developing a healthy mindset and all the life lessons you can learn along the way. Listen here

Team Human is a weekly podcast and set of resources enabling human intervention in the economic, technological, and social programs that determine how we live, work, and interact. This is media as cultural resistance and a path to social change. Listen here.
