Blog (with a) Post

I was walking along a wooded path yesterday. On one side was a farm field and, on the other, an open wild meadow. On the meadow side the trees were a mix of cherry, hazel and oak with deep banks of bramble and bracken.  On the farm side, the trees were mostly hazel and there was evidence that they were planted there for the purpose of copsing (see here). And then, hidden among the foliage, I found this beautiful, weathered old gate post made of oak.

I wonder how old it is?

Nearby Grange Farm is a Grade II listed building and parts of it go back to the 15th century. But there were buildings on the site even before that.

How many farmers have leaned on this post and looked out over their land?

If it could speak, what stories could it tell us?
