Did you know that rainbows should really be called rainrings as they are circular? How much of it we see depends upon the width of the band of rain and where the sun is at the time. As you can see in this amazing photo by Nicole Cambert (taken from Livingstone Island on the Zambian side of Victoria Falls), the normal rainbow shows above ground level but, where the ground drops away, you can see that it extends further downwards.
Isn't that amazing? And not a copy of Photoshop in sight.
In rare instances, you can also get a rainring around the sun (pic: National Geographic).
So where do the leprechauns put the pot of gold?
