Autumn egg-quinox

We're still in Mabon and there is an old folk tale that you can balance an egg on its end during the Autumnal Equinox. 

And it's true!

I promise you there's no blu-tack, wires, or glue. There's no hidden person dressed all in green standing against a green screen. It's simply the weight of the much heavier yolk settling below the white at the lowest part of the egg.

What you do is this; hold the egg on its end - rounded or pointy doesn't matter - and just keep it there. It takes about 10 minutes but suddenly the egg 'settles' and you realise that you can take your fingers away. 

And voila! One strangely balancing egg apparently in defiance of gravity and all reason. 

   

Try it for yourselves. But be quick ... the Equinox will be over tomorrow. 

Saying that, I'm pretty sure an egg will balance the day after tomorrow too. 

Or, indeed, on any other day.
